Working from home, introduced under the keyword “work anywhere,” is being reviewed due to controversy over low productivity and creativity. Ithaca Inc is planning to change its current flexible working allowance to require employees to return to the office. The problem is a backlash from members against the policy of returning to office.
Resistance, the attitude of members who do not accept new changes, is an important issue in organisational change management because it threatens organisational efficiency and innovation. Therefore, this paper presents a guideline for Ithaca Inc's change management in terms of managing resistance in the course of organisational management. This guideline includes origins, forms and reasons for resistance, and evaluates various organisational approaches to resistance. This set of considerations is accompanied by a case review, and ultimately provides implications for resistance management.
